Banking, Finance and Capital Markets Commission

On behalf of the Banking, Finance and Capital Markets Commission (BFCM), it is our pleasure to present this edition of the AIJA Journal, dedicated to the Regulation of Cryptoassets and Stablecoins.

Regulatory frameworks for cryptoassets are evolving rapidly across the globe, particularly following the adoption of the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) in the European Union. As these developments reshape the landscape for crypto-asset service providers, stablecoin issuers, and financial institutions, it has become essential for practitioners to understand how different jurisdictions are responding to these challenges.

This Q&A project brings together contributions from over twenty jurisdictions across Europe, the Americas, and beyond, addressing key topics including the licensing of crypto-asset service providers, the supervision of trading platforms, and AML/KYC obligations applicable to crypto intermediaries. A dedicated section on the EU-wide MiCA framework complements the national perspectives.

We are deeply grateful to each of the contributing authors for their generous commitment to this project. Their expertise and willingness to share practical insights make this comparative exercise both possible and valuable for our international legal community.

We hope this edition serves as a useful reference for practitioners navigating this rapidly evolving area of law.
